Discover the UK with the BLC!
The Discover UK summer programme gives BLC students the opportunity to study English in the UK and visit historical and cultural places. The programme will be located in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District (north of England). These places are in the countryside however, we will visit cities such as York, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds so that students can compare life in the countryside with life in the city.
The aim of this programme is to enable students to travel to the UK and develop their English language, communication and life skills.
Students will have interactive English classes in the morning which include grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and speaking.
There will be afternoon activities that are interactive and will develop communication and speaking skills. Debates and discussions will be a central part of this programme. Activities will often link to the historical and cultural places that we will visit and some tasks will take place out on location.
We will arrange visits to historical towns and cities in the north of England, such as Manchester, Liverpool, York,Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate. This will combine cultural work with practical experience. Students will have tasks when shopping, asking for directions, ordering food in restaurants and meeting English people.
Team work and life skills will be developed as each student will be part of a small group that has specific responsibilities for shopping, cooking and cleaning. This aspect of the programme aims to develop life skills and independence. This will help students to develop skills they would need if they study abroad in the future.
